"Doing" Internet Safety

I talked to a woman in her 30's about internet safety and it was a positive conversation. She had a pretty good knowledge of safety precautions that one should take in using the internet. She said that she kept her computer in the common room (where there was a lot of traffic) in her house and that she put security filters on her computer to restrict certain websites from being accessed. She told me that she also checks the history on her computer to make sure her kids haven't accessed any websites that would be inappropriate. I talked to her about not opening emails from unknown senders and she told me that she learned that lesson the hard way. About two years ago she opened up an email from an unknown sender and she got a virus on her computer. The virus crashed her computer and she had to buy a new one. She said that she made sure to tell her kids to never open emails from unknown senders. She had a pretty good understanding about internet safety and she said that after her computer crashed, she took internet safety more seriously. The only new thing that I had to offer her was to maybe monitor the amount of time that her children spend on the computer. She said that she was a little concerned that her kids were spending too much time on the computer. She said that they since they are still doing well in school, she hasn't been too concerned, but she doesn't want it to become a problem. Even though she knew a lot about internet safety she was still glad that I took the time to talk to her about internet safety.
